THUNDER BEGINS FALL SEASON WITH TASO TOURNAMENT

The West Houston Thunder kicks off what many believe has the promise of becoming their finest season ever, in the annual TASO Tournament.

TASO is stocked with quality competition from all over the Houston metro area. Among the 5A high school participants are two teams from Bellaire - fresh from their state final four appearance, Westside, Katy and the Thunder's opening opponent, Cy Ridge. The game is slated for 8pm Friday night, September 5th at Clear Brook High in Friendswood.

THUNDER FINISHES THIRD AT HWSA WEST REGIONAL

The West Houston Thunder earned a second consecutive trip to the HWSA World Series by finishing third at the 2008 HWSA West Regional Tournament in Plano, Texas. The Thunder entered the tournament as the number two seed and won three out of four games to qualify for the opportunity to compete to be the first-ranked homeschool team in the country. Last year's Thunder team finished second, and is excited about returning to Pensacola Florida for the World Series.

The tournament was marked by the outstanding pitching performances of senior Chris Riley and sophomore TC Cooper. TC pitched seven shutout innings against a strong Tulsa team, striking out eleven and allowing only six hits. TC also led the team in hitting with a .636 average with three RBI. Freshman Joshua Boothe hit .545 and eighth grader Ben Distefano hit .500 helping the Thunder to a team average of .299 for the tournament. Junior Richard Ownby hit .364 and provided clutch hitting, leading the team with eight RBI in four games.

The Thunder will travel to Pensacola in May to compete along with the seven best homeschool teams in the country, each having advanced from regional tournaments. Go Thunder!
